Wednesday October 7, 14, 21 & 28 19.00-20.30 hours,
Teacher Sinta Wullur
In this 4-week course a scala of vocal exercises derived from different vocal traditions will be introduced to participants who are interested in training their voice while deepening their understanding of Rhythm and different Eastern music styles. Overtone singing, Indian Raga /Gamelan and Indian rhythmical patterns/ improvisation will be presented and practiced.
The workshop consists of three parts:
Part 1) Warming up
The warming up starts with vocal meditation using vowels accompanied by the tanpura drone in such a way that one can create overtones. From there a scale from an Indian raga will be introduced.
Part 2) Indian Raga
Exercises to get familiarised with the Indian scale will be introduced, varying from slow improvisational gestures to rhythmical patterns. Here we don’t use lyrics, only abstract syllables.
The method is based on demonstration, imitation and vocal coaching. While examining these patterns and gestures we will work with techniques on how to use the voice. Also a guideline on how to improvise will be given.
Part 3) improvisation with rhythms and solo in a group
Depending on the number of participants there will be a group improvisation based on repetitive patterns in cycles.
Guidelines will be given on how to create the patterns and improvisations on them.
Price: €50,00 for the four evenings.
