Jivamukti (Vinyasa) & Yin Yoga Retreat Goa, India, January 12-19, 2019

Join our Yoga & Beach retreat in Mandrem, a quiet pristine beach village in the north of Goa, only a twenty-minute (beach) walk from bustling Arambol. Do you enjoy a group vibe but also love having personal time to do whatever you please? Then this retreat is for you!

You can start your day already at 7 AM with a one-hour Vinyasa yoga practice on the beach, or at 8.30 AM with the 1.5 hour Vinyasa practice in the shala (or take both!) followed by a healthy, tasty vegan communal breakfast in the beach side restaurant. We meet again in the late afternoon for a yin yoga session followed by a vegan buffet. Kirtan, heartsong circles, or a lecture on Vedanta or yoga philosophy will be added to the evening program for those interested.

In the generous leisure time, go for a massage, a pedicure, a coffee, or a coconut! The resort has an excellent reputation for its Ayurvedic treatments. Lie on one of the private sun beds on the sandy beach next to the peaceful ocean. Walk, swim or rest on the sea side. Go kitesurfing (or take a lesson) when the wind picks up.

Safe in the day and evening, the area offers plenty of restaurants and shops that you can reach by foot (or by taxi, if your feet get tired!)

Visit the night market in Anjuna. For a little extra charge, enjoy a swim in the pool at one of the neighboring luxury resorts. Arambol with its hippy vibe and markets, is just around the corner.

Who is this retreat for?

Whether you’re an experienced practitioner of yoga or an absolute beginner, you are welcome to join us. Jivamukti Yoga’s ‘Open Classes’ accommodate all levels. Yin Yoga is a quieting practice which Lilian will lead with with mantra and guitar. Lilian is a highly experienced yoga teacher since 15 years and musical too.

We received the great news Danish Stina and Niels will come play kirtan at our retreat. So it’s promising to become even more musical! All optional of course.

If you love silence and nature, enjoy the peace of Mandrem. Public places close well before 11 PM. If nightlife is more your thing, the party scene in neighboring Arambol is well-developed and easy to reach.

If you love the sunshine, in Goa the sun shines every day! A blue sky is almost guaranteed!

If this is your first time to India, Mandrem provides an easy landing. Your driver will be waiting for you at the Goa airport to take you to the resort. Although you will unmistakably be in India, the life here is accommodating to Western needs. You can walk in a bikini on the beach, drink a fine coffee, and shop at Western-friendly supermarkets.

And if you plan to stay longer in India, this is a great opportunity to meet up with experienced travellers and pick their brains about where to go next!

Location: Mandrem village

Mandrem is in the north of Goa, about 1.5 hour drive from Dabolim airport. The village is becoming increasingly popular but still maintains its charm. The holiday village where we are staying, Dunes, was one of the first resorts in the area and has since its beginnings been hugely popular among travellers because of its simpleness, cleanliness, friendly staff, excellent food and of course its location which is right on the beach!

Weather

The weather in Goa is dry and hot. But the temperature in January is still pleasant and rarely goes above 30 degrees celsius. In the evenings you may need a thin sweater.
Few mosquitos populate Goa, but at sunset you’ll need to be a bit more cautious of them.

Meals

Healthy freshly prepared plant-based (vegan) breakfasts and dinners will be served buffet style throughout the retreat. The restaurant faces the beach, and it’s visited by people from all over the area for its excellent food and pleasant seating.

For lunch, Mandrem and the surrounding area offers plenty of restaurants, both Indian and continental, at all price ranges.

Accommodation

Accommodation is basic but clean. Each hut has its own bathroom, bedlinen, towels, mosquito net and fan. You can choose to share a hut (double or twin beds) with your partner, friend or with an appointed (same sex) person. Or you can of course book a hut for yourself.

Travel (by air)

Book a flight to Mumbai (Bombay) and from Mumbai to Goa.
The 1.5 hour taxi ride to and from Goa airport is included in the price. Your driver will be waiting for you at the airport to take you straight to the resort.

Visa

To enter into India you will need a visa. Most citizens can easily get an electronic visa for 60 days online. (https://indianvisaonline.gov.in/evisa/tvoa.html). If you work in the media sector, contact a special visa agency for advice before applying for your visa.
